  • ½ cup moong dal (yellow lentils)
  • ½ cup red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder (dhania powder)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2–3 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp whole cumin seeds (jeera)
  • A pinch of garam masala
  • Fried onions (for garnish)
  • Fresh coriander (for garnish)
  • A little extra ghee (for topping)

🍲 Method

1. Prepare and cook the lentils

  • Wash both lentils thoroughly in a cooker and drain.
  • Add 4 cups of water.
  • Add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric, salt, and chopped onion.
  • Bring to a boil, then cover with lid.
  • Once the cooker gives a whistle, cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Turn off heat and open the cooker.
  • Let the dal simmer on low heat.

2. Prepare the garlic ghee tempering

3. Final cooking
